An Introduction
Hello all you crazy, over-dramatic, insanely-obsessed sports fans! Welcome to the sports blog of Jake Chastain, hosted by yours truly, Jake Chastain. Over the next year I’ll be spreading my thoughts over this blog whenever I get the urge to let loose with my mind and fingers.
This blog is going to be my vent for all of the things that I need to say, but never really have the chance or opportunity to discuss. This blog is going to be for any sports fan that likes to read someone else’s opinion and completely rip their argument apart in the process of simply disagreeing. This blog is going to be a place where everyone can read and comment on my thoughts. This blog is basically just a place for me to share my opinion on certain sports topics and see what others have to say about that same topic. I want this blog to not only be mine but everyone’s. Please, take what I say into consideration and then feel free to voice your own opinions. I want this blog to be a shared place for sports fans. Let’s kick up some virtual dirt everyone!
Just a quick back story for those of you that don’t know me personally: I grew up in a small town in central California called Merced. I graduated from Golden Valley High School in 2005 and then went on to graduate from the University of California, Merced in 2010 with a B.A in Literature and Writing. I have a strong background in wrestling and football and I’m a lifelong fan of basketball and baseball as well. Throughout my entire college studies I held a part time job at a small sports apparel store on the local mall. So when I wasn’t going to school or studying I was working at the sports store, talking sports with all of the customers that would constantly come through to visit. My passion, knowledge, and sports debate skills all grew drastically over those five years.
In early 2011 I moved to the bright lights of Los Angeles. I’ve absolutely loved my experience in Southern California thus far, but I’ve started to realize that my love and knowledge for sports is, well, rapidly dying. I’m an avid MMA fan and a writer for BJPenn.com, and as my love for that sport continues to grow I feel that my interest in the others have started to decline slightly. There are several other reasons for this as well, such as I don’t have as many sport fanatic friends to talk to on a daily basis like I did back home. Also, the sports atmosphere here in SoCal is much more trendy, meaning whatever is big at the moment is what everyone is talking about or is a new-found fan of. The lack of die-hard loyalty around me along with the fact that I don’t work in a broad sporting arena everyday has left me feeling as if I’ve lost my voice in the sporting world. So, before I lose myself completely I’m going to reclaim my love for sports and retake my place in the sports talk arena.
This blog is going to be my home for everything sports that I want to talk about. And as I spew my thoughts over this blog I hope that many read, follow, and respond to what I have to say. I hope to engage the average along with the die-hard fans all while getting myself back into the conversations that I’ve so desperately been missing these past few months. So please, take what I have to say however you would like and don’t be afraid to let yourself become a part of my conversation. Thank you for reading my thoughts and words: it’s always greatly appreciated. Now, let the sports talk begin…
